The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has urged motorists to renew their motor vehicle licence discs before the end of October, warning that more than one million discs are set to expire this month, with another two million due in November and December.
“With the October Transport Month upon us and the festive season fast approaching, motorists are reminded to finalise their travel arrangements by ensuring their licence discs are up to date,” the RTMC said.
A total of 1 002 771 vehicle licences will expire at the end of October, followed by 1 060 382 in November and 1 112 393 in December.
The RTMC said it would send SMS and email reminders to registered motorists through its online renewal platform, which has become increasingly popular since its launch in 2022.
About five million vehicle licences have been renewed online, with an average of 7 900 renewals processed daily over the past week. Motorists can log onto online.natis.gov.za to register and upload their details.
Clients from major banks including Capitec, FNB and Nedbank can also access the service via their banking apps.
The platform allows motorists to pay AARTO enforcement orders and perform online vehicle registrations and change of ownerships, a feature especially useful for dealerships handling bulk transactions.
Since April 2025, 120 230 change-of-ownership transactions and 78 239 registrations have been processed online.
“This value-added service improves convenience and saves time by offering a one-stop solution for vehicle licence compliance,” the RTMC said.
