As part of the festive season law enforcement operations aimed at ensuring safe and efficient cross-border travel, MEC Thulasizwe Thomo visited Kilometre 7 of the Lebombo Border Post and Kilometre 4 of the Ressano Garcia Border Post inside Mozambique.

The joint initiative was led by Minister of Transport Barbara Creecy and Mozambique’s Minister of Transport, Joao Matlombe. The engagement formed part of ongoing efforts to improve cross-border transport management and to identify opportunities to enhance safety along this key route.

The Lebombo and Ressano Garcia border posts serve as the principal road crossing between South Africa and Mozambique, facilitating the movement of passengers and freight along the N4 corridor.

MEC Thomo said: “The joint oversight and law enforcement programme demonstrated a shared commitment to strengthening regional cooperation, improving road transport safety, and ensuring efficient mobility across this strategic cross-border route.”

Minister Creecy said: “The Department of Transport remain committed to the OSBP in collaboration with the BMA, SARS, SANRAL/TRAC, Mozambique authorities and other partners.”
