The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms across Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga from Wednesday, December 17, through Thursday, 18 December 2025.

SAWS warns that affected areas could experience heavy rainfall leading to localised flooding, hail, damaging winds, and excessive lightning. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary safety precautions.

The weather service highlighted that storms of this intensity can pose risks to infrastructure, property and personal safety, particularly in flood-prone and low-lying areas. Motorists are cautioned to drive carefully due to the potential for waterlogged roads and reduced visibility.

Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items, avoid seeking shelter under trees during storms, and stay away from flooded roads or low-lying areas.

SAWS also encourages the public to monitor weather updates closely as conditions may change rapidly.
