Grammy-nominated American hip-hop artist Wale is set to take centre stage in Cape Town on January 2, 2026, headlining the Rockets Wonderland Takeover at Cabo Beach as part of a broader slate of major cultural events in the city.

The performance forms part of two high-profile events, Rockets Wonderland Takeover and the WAV Festival, which are expected to draw large crowds and place Cape Town at the centre of Africa’s summer entertainment calendar.

Wale, known for a catalogue of chart-performing releases and a career spanning music and fashion, is expected to deliver a high-energy live show. Organisers say his appearance adds significant international weight to the Rockets Wonderland Takeover, which is anticipated to attract both local and international audiences.

The events are among several large-scale cultural activations scheduled in Cape Town this season, reflecting the city’s growing appeal as a destination for global music acts and lifestyle festivals.

Building on this momentum, Wale's influence continues with the WAV Festival, making its debut in Cape Town today. While the festival celebrates the richness and innovation of R&B, soul, and alternative music, the artist’s presence as a cultural tastemaker underscores the festival’s mission to connect global and local sounds. It is explained that his involvement highlights Festiva’s vision of bringing world-class music, culture, and lifestyle to South African audiences.

Organisers also say the decision to launch the festival in Cape Town was intentional, as the city continues to emerge as a major meeting point for African and international artists, creatives and cultural tastemakers.

“The city has become a hub for global creative exchange, and WAV Festival arrives at a time when Cape Town’s cultural momentum is undeniable," the organisers said.

At the forefront is Mariah The Scientist, one of R&B’s most exciting new voices. Making her South African debut, Mariah’s voice, lyrics and presence promise a performance that resonates with a global audience.  South African artists Kelvin Momo, Shekhinah, Manana, Nanette, Kujenga, and Strictly Soul Hour feat. Akio and Yandani add depth and diversity, reflecting the innovation and confidence of Africa’s youth culture today.

A Summer of Sound, Style, and CultureTogether, Rockets Wonderland and WAV Festival are amplifying Cape Town’s rising status as a hub for global music and cultural exchange.
