KwaZulu‑Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is appearing before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee today, in the ongoing inquiry into allegations of corruption and interference within the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Mkhwanazi, whose revelations in July 2025 prompted the inquiry, is expected to address allegations raised against him and provide further details on claims he made about political interference, criminal infiltration, and internal sabotage within SAPS.

The committee has previously heard from witnesses, examining issues including the controversial disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team in KwaZulu‑Natal and other high-profile matters affecting policing and intelligence operations.

Yesterday, the National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola appeared before the committee, highlighting ongoing efforts to address corruption and criminal infiltration within Crime Intelligence. Authorities noted that while measures are underway, challenges remain in rooting out entrenched corruption.

In a related development, Mkhwanazi’s contract as KwaZulu‑Natal Police Commissioner has been renewed for another five years. Police Minister Fannie Masemola confirmed that the extension has the support of the KwaZulu‑Natal Premier and that final details are being finalised.
