Hawks shoot dead three suspects after Benoni hijacking and kidnapping

Three suspects were killed in a shootout with Hawks officers following a hijacking and kidnapping in Crystal Park, Benoni, while the victim was rescued unharmed.

Three suspects were fatally wounded following a high-speed chase and shootout with the Hawks Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS) in Crystal Park, Benoni. 

The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday and is linked to a hijacking, attempted murder and kidnapping. The victim was rescued unharmed.

According to information published on the Arrive Alive website, officers received intelligence about suspects allegedly involved in hijackings and kidnappings along Elm Road in Crystal Park and began patrolling the area.

At around 8.30pm, members spotted a silver-grey Opel Astra matching the description shortly after suspects had pulled a female victim from her Fiat and forced her into their vehicle.

A high-speed chase followed, during which the suspects opened fire on police. The suspects’ vehicle subsequently hit a side barrier and crashed into an embankment.

In the aftermath, three suspects were fatally wounded.

Police recovered two firearms as well as some of the victim’s belongings from the suspects’ vehicle. The kidnapped woman was rescued and was not injured.

The incident remains under investigation.
