Okay, okay… I know. I’m talking about music again. Surprise, surprise. But I have to tell you about The Hangout Fest 3. Last week I was telling you that music is medication so you have to get that prescription filled, and this is exactly that time. It’s all going down at The German Club in Edenvale on 25 April and I’m into it. There aren’t too many festivals on the East Rand, which already makes this feel like a bit of a win, plus it’s daytime vibes and totally family-friendly. We love that. The line up even… goodness.
There’s also something really cool about the setting. The German Club has that laid-back, community feel where you can properly settle in for the day. It’s the kind of place where kids can run around, friends can sprawl out on the grass and you can actually enjoy a festival without feeling rushed or boxed in. It’s easy, it’s relaxed and it just works. I’ve done a bunch of fests there and it’s awesome.
Let’s chat bands. We’ll start with Rambling Bones, bringing that raw, punk folk energy that just makes you wanna move, followed by Jasper Dan who never misses when it comes to catchy, feel good tunes that stick with you long after the set ends. Then you’ve got The Black Cat Bones, absolute legends in their own lane, delivering gritty, powerful rock and blues vibes that get right under your skin in the best way possible. They played the first Hangout and it’s going to be pretty special checking those cats out there again.
Prime Circle are, of course, a household name and for good reason. Big songs, big moments and that undeniable stage presence that pulls everyone in. It’s Better Days over at The Hangout. Lee Cole, who’s proudly from the Vale will make this one feel extra special, bringing that polished pop sound with a bit of edge and a whole lot of heart. The Muffinz always bring a soulful, genre bending experience that’s rich and layered, while Majozi delivers those warm, uplifting melodies that feel like sunshine in song form.
Shadowclub are all about that bold, high energy rock and they’re just mind blowing. All Aboard my baby! The Dirty Skirts keep things fun, nostalgic and completely sing-along-worthy. They also haven’t played Joburg in the longest time so when Homewrecker starts I’m flying through that crowd all the way to the front. It’s gonna be the kind of mix that keeps the day moving without a single dull moment and gives everyone something special to latch onto.
On the decks, DJ Michael Lesar and DJ Cath Grenfell are set to keep the energy flowing, making absolutely sure there’s never a dip and always a reason to stay on your feet. And holding it all together MC Barney Simon, a true legend in the music industry, whose presence alone will add that extra bit of magic to the day.
And let’s not forget the food and drink side of things, because you know that’s part of the experience. Expect a solid spread that keeps you going from your first arrival to that late afternoon wind-down, with plenty of options to keep everyone happy. It’s one of those events where you can really settle in and make a full day of it. That prescription is getting properly filled here.
So if you’re looking for a solid plan that ticks all the boxes, this is it. Great music, good people and a setting that feels like a proper little escape. Round up your crew, bring the family and make a day of it. Tickets are available at www.tixsa.co.za and trust me, this is one you don’t want to miss. There’s nothing better than supporting local and shaking a little tail feather in the sun at the same time. Let’s go.
