Four schools in the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng have received a share of 20 000 loaves of bread to support their learner nutrition programmes.

The beneficiary schools are Saambou Primary School in Manenberg and Willows Primary School in Heideveld in the Western Cape, Bruntville Primary School in Mooi River in KwaZulu-Natal, and St Vincent School for the Deaf in Johannesburg.

The bread will be delivered regularly to the schools to supplement existing feeding schemes and ensure learners have access to daily meals.

The initiative follows a national campaign in which listeners nominated schools in their communities they felt were most in need of support.

For many learners, school nutrition programmes play a critical role in their ability to focus and participate in class, particularly in communities where food insecurity remains a challenge.

“Through the campaign, we’re able to support learners with one of the most important foundations for success, which is good nutrition. A child who is well-nourished is better able to focus, participate and reach their full potential in the classroom.

“The campaign also allowed us to celebrate a unique shopper behaviour, the gentle squeeze that reassures consumers of Albany’s unmatched freshness in a fun and engaging way. By bringing these elements together, we’re able to make a meaningful difference in schools,” says Abongile Dzai, Senior Brand Manager, Albany.

A further 3 000 loaves are expected to be distributed to three additional schools in communities in need.
