Soweto Fashion Week (SFW) returns to the Soweto Theatre from 29 April to 1 May 2026, unveiling its Autumn/Winter programme featuring emerging designers, international collaborations, and new strategic partnerships.

The three-day showcase will present 20 designer collections across multiple runway shows, including presentations from fashion institutions such as the University of Johannesburg and Sew Africa, alongside a mix of established and rising talent

This year’s programme also expands its global reach through affiliation with the BRICS International Fashion Federation, with designers Vikтória Varga from Spain and Kamil Hewavitharana from Sri Lanka joining the lineup.

Stephen Manzini, Founder of Soweto Fashion Week, says the partnership has enabled five local designers to access international platforms since 2024.

“Soweto Fashion Week has never been just about fashion shows; it is about building an ecosystem where talent can grow, access opportunities, and transition from creativity into sustainable careers. From local runways to international exchanges, our mission is to ensure that designers are not only seen, but supported, exported, and positioned as global contributors to the industry,” he said.

Manzini added that the platform focuses on long-term industry growth and opportunities for designers.

“We recognise that creativity alone is not enough; designers need access, structure, mentorship, and platforms that enable them to transition from raw potential into commercially viable and globally competitive brands.”

“Our work is rooted in creating those pathways ensuring that every designer who steps onto our runway is not only given visibility, but is equipped with the tools, networks, and opportunities required to grow beyond a single showcase. From facilitating collaborations and retail opportunities to unlocking international exposure through our global partnerships, we are actively shaping careers, not just moments.”

“Through our continued participation in global platforms and affiliations, including our BRICS-aligned initiatives, we are proud to be exporting South African design excellence to the world while simultaneously bringing international creative dialogue back home. This exchange strengthens our industry, expands our designers’ perspectives, and positions Johannesburg and Soweto in particular as a powerful, credible voice within the global fashion economy,” he explained.

The emerging designers block will introduce labels including 560 Rebirth by Lumka Takane, Finch by Kwanele Thusi, IDAYIMANI by Tebogo Selebi, The Vision Line by Lucky Masemola, Msaba Emporium by Thakazelwa Mhlomi, Bravo & Co by Gift Nematei, and Mbobo Movement by Luthando Mbobo.

RAWSILK Season 2 second runner-up Precious Mahlangu of Precious Lulu Couture will also showcase a handcrafted collection featuring crochet, weaving, structural beading and tassel work, inspired by winter sunrise and sunset tones.

SFW resident designer Sibu FDB returns with a collection blending oversized silhouettes, clean structure and street-luxury elements.

HOSS BY SASS by Sanele Thabethe will present Grounded, a capsule collection tracing a transition from structured silhouettes to fluid forms, while Andile Cele of Dope Store brings his signature streetwear aesthetic to the runway, adding to the diverse lineup.

Soweto Fashion Week has also partnered with Johannesburg Tourism to position the city as a fashion and cultural destination, while creating opportunities for small businesses.

“This partnership shines a spotlight on Johannesburg’s cultural heritage and creative energy, positioning our city as a global hub for fashion, design, innovation and tourism,” said Belu Mabandla, Executive Head for Destination Marketing & Events at Johannesburg Tourism.

“It reflects our commitment to elevating local talent, fostering economic growth and showcasing the dynamic spirit that defines Johannesburg.”

Beauty brand Creme of Nature also joins the platform as a partner supporting African creativity.

“Our collaboration with Soweto Fashion Week highlights Creme of Nature’s passion for nurturing African talent and showcasing the richness of our cultural identity. It is a shared journey of empowerment, authenticity, and forward-thinking creativity shaping the future of African industries,” said Zandi Zinganto, Brand Manager at Creme of Nature.

Soweto Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2026 is supported by Joburg Theatre, Soweto TV, The Saturday Star, Creme of Nature and Johannesburg Tourism, with tickets for the three-day showcase available through Webtickets.
