Led by Heinrich Klaasen and Kagiso Rabada, the South Africans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) are truly thriving in the 2026 edition.

In this year’s edition, Rabada had already taken 21 wickets in 12 matches for an average of 20. He lies second on the IPL wicket-takers chart behind Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has taken the same number of wickets but at a slightly better average to top the list.

The last time Rabada took over 11 wickets in an entire IPL season was back in the 2022 edition while still playing for Punjab Kings.

That’s why it’s all the more pleasing to see that Rabada has put that behind him as he churns out world-class performances in 2026.

Nandre Burger Producing with the Ball; Klaasen Dominates with the Bat

The next best in the bowling rankings is Nandre Burger way down in 29th position with nine wickets to his name from 10 matches.

He’s closely followed by Lungi Ngidi in 32nd with eight wickets also from 10 games, while Corbin Bosch is 39th with seven strikes from just three outings.

Marco Jansen is the only other SA bowler in the top 50, at number 43 with six wickets in 11 matches.

With the willow, Klaasen has been the standout SA player as the leading run-scorer in the competition so far. From 12 innings, he has plundered 508 runs at an average of 50. And a strike rate of 153. That includes five half centuries to his name.

It’s even more impressive that he leads the run-scoring charts considering he bats in the middle order.

Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs in the Runs

Ryan Rickelton is the next best SA batsman at number 12 on the charts, with 382 runs at an average of 47 and a strike rate of 51. That included a masterful knock of 123 not out, which he scored on 29 April in Wankhede for Mumbai Indians against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Along with his ton, Rickelton has also scored two half-centuries.

Tristan Stubbs is the third-ranked SA batsman in the IPL, with 271 runs at an average of 38 and a strike rate of 129. In his 11 knocks, he has notched up two 50s.

Donovan Ferreira Shines in IPL as Aiden Markram Struggles; Miller and de Kock Round Out Top 50

The surprise package of the IPL from an SA perspective, though, has been the performances of Donovan Ferreira at number 36 in the run-scoring charts. After playing two games in 2024 and one in 2025, he has been extremely effective coming in, in the middle order for Rajasthan Royals. In total, he has scored 233 runs from 10 games at an average of 38 and an even more impressive strike rate of 177.

Meanwhile, Aiden Markram has not fared quite as well as he has been shifted up and down the batting order for Lucknow Super Giants. The Proteas skipper has scored 231 runs at an average of 25 in 11 matches. So far, it’s Markram’s third lowest average in his sixth edition of the IPL.

Rounding out the top 50 in the run-scoring charts is the SA duo of David Miller (48th) and Quinton de Kock (50th).
