The Proteas Women are still searching for that “perfect game” as they prepare to face India in the fourth T20 International at the Wanderers on Saturday evening (6pm), looking to extend an already impressive unbeaten run.

South Africa are firmly in control of the five-match series, having already sealed it with three convincing victories over their opponents.

The standout moment so far came in the third match, when the Proteas pulled off a stunning record-breaking 193-run chase to secure a first bilateral T20I series win over India.

Captain Laura Wolvaardt led from the front with a superb 115 runs off 53 balls, scoring 14 fours and five sixes in an innings that featured both the fastest half-century and century in Proteas Women’s history.

The series victory provides a timely boost ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales from June 12 to July 5, 2026.

Despite the dominant performances, the Proteas want no signs of complacency to creep in.

Speaking ahead of the fourth match, all-rounder Chloé Tryon made it clear the focus remains on sharpening their overall performance rather than dwelling on results. While one eye is already on the World Cup, the team are keen to tidy up key areas in the final two matches.

“The batting has improved a lot, and I feel like our bowling has come a long way, especially after a tough New Zealand series, but I still think our fielding is probably something we can work on,” Tryon said on Friday.

“The good thing about playing against India and not doing well in the field is that we’re still winning matches. Hopefully, all of that can come together, and we can put in a perfect performance. We’ve got two important games still coming up - building blocks for us. If we can just tighten up on those small things, it will give us really good confidence going into a World Cup.”

Even if they have sealed the series, there’s a clear determination within the squad to maintain standards and keep improving.

Tryon added that head coach Mandla Mashimbyi reminded them that they are starting from zero again on Saturday and should not fall in love with winning, but rather stick to their processes. According to her, the team is in a good and confident space.

“The next two games are still really important. We know how strong the Indian side is, and we can’t take anything for granted. It’s about building on the performances we’ve had. We’re going to stick to our processes and keep building for an exciting World Cup coming up.

“It is good that our top order is scoring runs, but we have a little bit of pad rash,” Tryon joked about sitting and watching their top order go.

“We are preparing like we are going to bat, but it has been great to see how our top order has done. Suné (Luus) and Wolfie (Wolvaardt) have been special upfront and good to watch. We don’t know what coach is planning for the next couple of games, but whether we change our lineup or not, we must be ready for the opportunity when we get it.”
