Proteas fast bowler Corbin Bosch and Dewald Brevis starred in Delhi as the Proteas defeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by six wickets to finish the group stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup unbeaten.
With the ball, Bosch stepped up in the absence of regular starters Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen. The right-arm quick returned figures of 3/17, rescuing South Africa after Kagiso Rabada and Kwena Maphaka struggled to contain the run rate with the new ball.
Exploiting the moisture on the Arun Jaitley Stadium surface, Bosch consistently hit a back-of-a-length and short-length at high pace, leaving the UAE batters without answers. His clinical performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
Fast bowler Anrich Nortje, making his first appearance of the tournament, returned 2/28, while George Linde's 1/17 also played an important hand as the Proteas restricted the UAE to 122/6.
Despite a delayed start to the chase, an in-form Aiden Markram took the attack to the UAE bowlers, blistering an 11-ball 28 that included five fours and a six.
While Quinton de Kock had a relatively quiet outing with 14 off 16, it allowed Ryan Rickelton and Dewald Brevis to provide a spectacular finish. Rickelton departed for 30 off 16 — a knock featuring two monster sixes — before Brevis finished unbeaten on 36 off 25 balls.
Brevis smashed three sixes and a solitary boundary to guide the Proteas to a six-wicket victory with 40 balls to spare. With this result, South Africa finish at the top of Group D with a perfect record of four wins from four matches, heading into the Super 8 stage with significant momentum.
