The Stormers could receive a timely boost ahead of their high-stakes Champions Cup Round of 16 clash against Toulon this Saturday (4pm kick-off), with the possible return of scrumhalf Cobus Reinach adding both experience and composure to the squad.
Reinach, who has been sidelined with injury, appears to be edging closer to full fitness. Assistant coach Rito Hlungwani recently hinted at positive signs from training, noting that the scrumhalf has been running alongside speedster Seabelo Senatla, who is also on the recovery path.
The return of the Springbok veteran would come at a crucial time as the Stormers prepare for one of their toughest challenges this season at Stade Mayol against the French giants.
What makes Reinach’s potential comeback even more significant is his deep familiarity with club rugby in France. Having spent five seasons with Montpellier, he understands the tempo, physicality, and tactical nuances of the French game — knowledge that could prove invaluable against a seasoned Toulon side.
Similarly, hybrid player Hacjivah Dayimani brings his own French experience into the mix.
After a stint with Racing 92, Dayimani returned to Cape Town with a broader perspective and understanding of rugby in France. He says he is looking forward to playing in France again.
“I have a few mates who play there, guys I’ve played with at Racing who’ve moved to Toulon,” Dayimani said when asked about the battle.
“Obviously, I’ve played a couple of games against them, so I know them a little bit.
“And it’s going to be exciting playing in Toulon. It’s a big challenge on its own, the stadium, the atmosphere. So for me, it’s very, very exciting.”
A victory in France, coupled with a Bulls win in Glasgow on Saturday, could set up a home quarter-final at the DHL Stadium for the Stormers.
