The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has slapped both Senegal and hosts Morocco with a string of suspensions and fines following the shambolic Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) final earlier this month.

Both nations were found guilty of disciplinary breaches during the match.

In a statement issued after a sitting of its Disciplinary Board, the Confederation of African Football confirmed sanctions against the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF), the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), as well as several players and officials, for conduct that violated the Caf Disciplinary Code.

Senegal head coach Pape Bouna has been ordered to pay a fine of R1,57m and has also been suspended for five matches for “unsporting conduct” which brought the game into disrepute.

Senegal players Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were also suspended for two Caf matches for unsporting conduct towards the referee.

Meanwhile, the FSF was hit with fines totalling R9,6m for the improper conduct of its supporters and unsporting behaviour of players and technical staff during the final.

Morocco were also hit hard by Caf. Star defender Achraf Hakimi was suspended for two Caf matches, although one of those suspensions has been suspended for a year, subject to good behaviour. Midfielder Ismaël Saibari was handed a three-match ban and fined R1,57m for unsporting conduct.

The FRMF was fined just over half of the FSF, with its penalties totalling R5,1m. This was for inappropriate behaviour of ball boys during the final and for the players and technical staff invading the VAR review area and obstructing the referee.
