A quite comical clip has emerged from Kaizer ChiefsBetway Premiership clash against Stellenbosch FC on Tuesday.

Though Chiefs lost the encounter 2-1 at FNB Stadium, the home team cheerleaders were in high spirits throughout the contest.

At one point, they were captured on video performing one of their routines near a security guard facing the crowd and paying no attention to the cheerleaders at all.

The cheerleaders noticed this, and though the guard stood stoically like a member of the King’s Guard at Buckingham Palace, they involved him like a prop while they danced around him.

As they received no reaction whatsoever, they admitted defeat and moved in. The camera kept rolling through, and once they left, the guard finally cracked a smile.

Chiefs’ Title Quest Falling Behind

On the footballing front, Chiefs appeared to be league contenders earlier this year. At the end of January, with their 1-0 win away at Dr Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein over Marumo Gallants, AmaKhosi moved into second place on the log with 30 points after 15 games.

At the time, only Mamelodi Sundowns were ahead of Chiefs with 32 points. However, since then, Chiefs have played just once more, which was the match against Stellenbosch.

It means league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns are now eight points ahead of Chiefs with a game in hand. Orlando Pirates are second, but only on goal difference as they seem determined to break Sundowns’ run of eight league titles in a row.

Even Sekhukhune United are now ahead of Chiefs, as they are in third on 32 points.
