The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) on Thursday announced a significant change regarding the upcoming Total Energies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026, originally set to take place from July 25 to August 16.

Following extensive discussions with FIFA and various stakeholders, the organisation has decided to postpone the event due to unforeseen circumstances, though specific details have not yet been disclosed.

Initially, the tournament was awarded to Morocco in October 2024 to celebrate women’s football across the African continent.

The decision to reschedule, although expected, is a disappointment for fans and players alike. However, CAF remains optimistic about the tournament’s future.

In a statement on the rescheduling, CAF confirmed that preparations for the event are already underway and assured stakeholders of its commitment to preserving the event’s prestige.

“We are confident that with the ongoing support of our partners and local stakeholders, we will ensure the success of WAFCON 2026,” the statement read.

The excitement surrounding this tournament, which is integral to the women’s football calendar, continues to build, particularly as teams prepare for the qualifying rounds.

Stakeholders express hope that this rescheduling will ultimately lead to a more impactful and successful event for all involved. Preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON 2026 are underway, and all parties are confident it will be a great success.

While the new tournament dates have yet to be confirmed, CAF will likely announce an updated schedule soon, keeping fans and players informed as plans progress. CAF will likely settle for the tournament starting 25 July – 16 August 2026.
