Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs confirmed three new signings on Tuesday as the club continue their rebuild for the upcoming season.
Former AFC Wimbledon and Port Vale midfielder Ethan Chislett arrived in the country last week to complete his move, and was eventually unveiled by the club having put pen to paper.
The 26-year-old Chislett was born in Durban but moved to England with his family at a young age. He started playing football for Southampton’s academy and made his mark in England’s lower leagues before moving to League One’s AFC Wimbledon in 2020.
After lighting up League One with Wimbledon, Chislett joined Port Vale, where he continued to sharpen his eye for goal before deciding it was time to take on a new challenge at Chiefs.
Announcing his signing, Chiefs posted “We are pleased to announce the signing of 26-year-old Ethan Chislett, an attacking midfielder known for his creative abilities,” on their social media channels.
At Port Vale, Director of football Dave Flitcroft described Chislett as a “player that loves to find space in between midfield players and defenders. His timing of runs into the box to create goalscoring opportunities is outstanding”.
The club also announced they had signed Guinea Bissau-born Portuguese striker Flavio Silva to replace Ranga Chivairo.
“We are pleased to announce the signing of Portuguese striker Flávio Silva from Persebaya Surabaya in Indonesia. The Guinea Bissau-born player will wear jersey #77. “Welcome to the Family!”
Silva, a product of the Sporting Lisbon academy, has been brought in to address the club’s goalscoring woes. Last season, Chiefs often outplayed their opponents, but their failure in putting the ball in the back of the net resulted in a second season in a row where they finished outside of the top half.
Chiefs also signed left back Nkanyiso Shinga from Purtuguese club Alverca.
