KwaZulu-Natal’s Durban City and Mpumalanga’s TS Galaxy have confirmed their places in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals, joining Casric Stars and Milford in the final four.
Fans can look forward to the semi-final draw, which will be broadcast live on Extra Time via the SuperSport on Monday night at 8.30pm.
Both Durban City and TS Galaxy showed remarkable resilience in their respective quarter-final matches on Sunday, demonstrating a commitment under immense pressure. Durban City’s path to the semi-finals was nothing short of gruelling after losing a player to a red card and playing with 10 men for 40 minutes against Lamontville Golden Arrows.
However, they emerged victorious in a nerve-wracking penalty shootout, sealing a 5-4 win following a dramatic 1-1 draw.
In a match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats, Durban City initially took control when Fezile Gcaba scored early on. However, substitute Thokozani Khumalo levelled the score for Arrows soon afterwards.
With the team reduced to 10 after Athini Jodwana’s red card in the 79th minute, the tension escalated. Coach Pitso Dladla attributed their success to mental fortitude, affirming: “It was all about the mental confidence.”
Celebrating their progress, Dladla acknowledged his players’ incredible tenacity during the penalty shootout.
Meanwhile, TS Galaxy faced the Northern Cape amateurs Jacksa Spear in a match that proved more challenging than expected. Despite heavy pressure from their underdog opponents, the Rockets’ experienced squad — including key contributions from Tshepo Kakora and Brazilian import Salatiel Igor—ultimately advanced to the next stage of the tournament.
As the dust settles on these quarter-final games, both players and fans turn their attention to the semi-final draw. Among the four teams vying for the coveted trophy, only TS Galaxy bear the weight of a prior triumph, having lifted the Nedbank Cup in the 2018/19 season.
