Durban City chairman Farook Kadodia was nothing but unanimous when describing his team's success thus far this campaign, despite the club only returning to the elite division this season.
At the start of the 2025/26 season, Kadodia said the journey back to the top flight was both exciting and daunting. Yet, the team’s performances have quickly exceeded even the club’s own ambitions. Currently sitting fifth in the Betway Premiership table, Durban City have made a strong impression in KwaZulu‑Natal.
Along with third-placed AmaZulu and eighth-placed Golden Arrows, the club — previously Maritzburg United — has emerged as the surprise package this season in the Betway Premiership and Nedbank Cup.
With 35 points from 22 games in the league, they are firmly in the top half and still in contention for a Top 3 finish. The Citizens will also contest the Nedbank semi-final on Saturday (kick-off 3pm) when they face Casric Stars.
Kadodia attributed their success to the combined effort of everyone involved at the club.
“We knew the road ahead would be challenging, and our expectations were cautious. Every match, every save, every goal, and every moment of support from our fans has reminded us why we fight for this club,” Kadodia said. “This achievement is not just about the players on the field or the staff behind the scenes; it’s about the entire Durban City family.”
Head coach Pitso Dladla has also praised the club’s structure, describing it as the “secret sauce” behind their derby victories, with careful planning, strong conditioning, and squad unity helping them thrive under pressure.
As the season heads into its final phase, Durban City remain a formidable force in KwaZulu‑Natal football, outpacing local rivals and setting a standard for newly promoted sides. Kadodia’s pride is clear, but so too is his focus on the future.
“I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this journey, and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve together in the months ahead," the Kadodia concluded.
