TS Galaxy captain Mlungisi Mbunjana believes his side has the perfect opportunity to carve out a new chapter in the club’s history as they prepare for their Nedbank Cup semi-final.

The Rockets face Milford FC on Sunday, with a place in the final at stake in what promises to be a defining moment in their season.

Galaxy enters the encounter carrying a unique distinction: they are the only remaining side to have previously lifted the trophy, having famously won it in 2019. By contrast, fellow semi-finalists Durban City FC, Casric Stars, and Milford FC are all navigating this stage for the first time.

However, Mbunjana was quick to point out that past success carries little weight for the current group.

“We are preparing very well, and the confidence is back within the camp since that 6-0 defeat against Orlando Pirates,” he said. “Everyone knows the club last won the competition in 2019, but none of the players who won it then are still here. This is a totally new squad.”

For the Galaxy skipper, that reality has only heightened the sense of opportunity. “It’s a chance for everyone here to write their own names in the history books. For the young players, it’s an opportunity to start their careers by lifting a cup. And for those closer to retirement, they can finish their journeys with silverware.”

That blend of youth and experience has created a unified sense of purpose within the dressing room. “The motivation and desire are there from everyone,” Mbunjana added.

“Yes, we have individual goals, but all of those come together right now. We are grounded and preparing well.”

Galaxy’s journey to this stage has been built on resilience and organisation—qualities they will need again against a Milford side eager to continue their "fairytale" run. While the Rockets carry top-flight experience into the encounter, Mbunjana’s comments suggest there is no room for complacency.

Instead, the focus remains on discipline and seizing a rare opportunity. With history within reach and a place in the final on the line, Galaxy will look to draw on both their tactical maturity and collective hunger as they aim for a second Nedbank Cup title.
