Golden Arrows have made a late season push back into the Top 8 and will most likely finish the Betway Premiership campaign in sixth place, after a strong resurgence under coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

At one stage it looked as though Arrows would fade into mid-table obscurity, but the Durban outfit have rediscovered their rhythm at the perfect time. The team has looked in perfect harmony as the season wraps up, finding a balance between their attacking and defensive play.

At times, Arrows have looked a bit shaky — mainly in front of goal. The lack of conversion rate, when compared to the chances they created, was worrying at times for Mngqithi but the team have consolidated their form and could end the season on a high on Saturday against TS Galaxy at Princess Magogo Stadium (kick-off 3pm)

Calm leadership from Mngqithi has steadied the ship and transformed Abafana Bes’thende into one of the form teams in the Betway Premiership heading into the final weekend of the season.

Arrows have collected five points from their last three matches, a run that has reignited belief within the squad and strengthened their hold on a coveted and lucrative MTN8 spot next season.

A gritty away victory over Chippa United recently was an important, disciplined performance, which showcased the growing confidence and fighting spirit within the team after two draws against Polokwane City and AmaZulu, respectively, earlier this month.

Mngqithi’s composed approach on the touchline has not gone unnoticed either. The experienced tactician has once again reminded South African football of his pedigree, while several of his players have started attracting attention from bigger clubs.

One of the standout names has been defender Ayanda Jiyane, who according to reports has emerged as a transfer target for Orlando Pirates. The centre-back has enjoyed a breakthrough season after arriving from the now-defunct Royal AM setup.

Jiyane has featured prominently throughout the campaign, making 33 appearances across all competitions and establishing himself as one of the club’s most reliable performers at the back.

His consistency, physical presence, and composure in defence have played a key role in Arrows’ late-season revival. Now, Mngqithi and his men face one final assignment as they welcome TS Galaxy to King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.

With momentum on their side and the possibility of sealing sixth place, Arrows have every reason to believe they can finish what has become a fruitful resurgence in style.
