Orlando Pirates have made their intentions clear on their planned invasion into Mamelodi Sundowns’ league dominance, while the rest of the league has not been short of action on and off the field, with as many as seven teams under new leadership since the start of the season.

Manqoba Mngqithi falling out of favour with the Brazilians has been the biggest talking point so far in the season.

The 53-year-old missed out on an opportunity to bring a domestic trophy to Chloorkop after being knocked out in the semi-finals of the MTN8 competition by a 2-0 aggregate score courtesy of Stellenbosch FC in the early parts of the season.

Their shortfall followed the 2-1 loss in the final of the Nedbank Cup against Pirates in the 2023/24 season.

Sundowns went on to suffer a shock 2-1 loss to newcomers Magesi FC in the final of the Carling Knockout competition, making it over two seasons without any domestic silverware outside the seven consecutive league titles.

Portuguese mentor Miguel Cardoso has since taken over the reigns, and with four wins from four matches, things have seemingly been back on track, and they will need to remain so, as with the standard and expectations set by the club, they will have their sights set on regaining the league to add to their 2016 CAF Champions League success.

Clinton Larsen has thrown Magesi FC an uphill task of surviving their first ever top flight season from the bottom of the log following his resignation after the 3-0 loss against the Carling All-Stars side almost two weeks ago.

Larsen, who masterminded the Minnows promotion to the Premier Soccer League with two games to spare, did the same with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory in the Carling Knockout against the defending league champions.

Former Orlando Pirates coach Owen da Gama will make a return to the PSL after he was named as the 53-year-old's replacement. Da Gama’s immediate task will be to improve on the one win from the ten matches Magesi has played so far this season.

He can take a lot of confidence from their next opponents, TS Galaxy, whom after losing coach Sead Ramovic announced Adnan Beganovic as his replacement, and the move has reaped rewards so far as they now find themselves tenth with 13 points from 11 matches after being last on the table when the Bosnian mentor took over.

The Rockets have two more points than Cape Town City, who are currently on the hunt for a new coach after they parted ways with Eric Tinkler.

Currently 12th on the log, the Cape side are in danger of suffering their worst finish in the league since the 54-year-old made his return to the club for the past three seasons where he managed second, fourth, and fifth place finishes.

Their task will be made harder as they next come up against Kaizer Chiefs, who, even through their struggles in the early parts of the season, will come into the encounter with a lot of confidence after a 1-0 win over Chippa United.

The former Maritzburg United FC coach ends his second stay at the club having only managed three wins, two draws, and five losses in the ten matches so far this season.

Meanwhile, Thabo September will be tasked with returning Chippa United back into the top eight as they currently find themselves ninth after a spell of poor results saw them collect four points from their last five fixtures with only one victory.

September steps in to replace outgoing head coach Kwanele Kopo, and he will be assisted by Mabhuti Khenyeza, who also vacated his post at KZN side Lamontville Golden Arrows.
