In recent times the 7-Wood in golf has become a very popular golf club in the bags of pros and amateurs.
I managed to hit a few shots with this club on my last trip to South Africa, thanks to a great friend of mine, Brian Kannigadu.
This club is not only forgiving but produces some amazing trajectory and distance. Let’s take a look at this club, which I suggest you get in your bag in the near future.
What is a 7-Wood?
A 7-wood is a type of fairway wood used in golf. It's designed for shots from the fairway or rough, typically for longer approach shots or second shots on par-five holes.
Characteristics of a 7-Wood.
Loft. A 7-wood typically has a loft between 20° and 24°.
The distance achieved with a 7-wood can vary depending on the golfer's swing speed and style, but it's generally around 150-200 yards.
The 7-wood produces a higher trajectory than a 3-wood or 5-wood, making it ideal for shots that require more height.
When to Use a 7-Wood:
-Long approach shots. Use a 7-wood for approach shots from 150-200 yards out.
-Second shots on par-five holes. A 7-wood can be a great option for the second shot on a par-five hole, especially if you need to hit a high shot to reach the green.
-Shots from the rough. The 7-wood's higher loft and larger sweet spot make it a good choice for shots from the rough.
Tips for Hitting a 7-Wood.
Choose the right ball position. Play the ball slightly forward of center in your stance.
Use a smooth swing. Focus on making a smooth, controlled swing to generate power and accuracy.
Pay attention to your angle of attack. Make sure to hit the ball with a slightly descending blow to ensure a solid strike.
By incorporating a 7-wood into your golf game, you can add more versatility and accuracy to your long approach shots. Catch you on the fairways!
