Hollywood actress Halle Bailey is encouraging travellers to ditch rigid plans and embrace spontaneity.
Her advice? “Go on a whim.”
The 26-year-old "Little Mermaid" star recently sat down with Regé-Jean Page for a travel-themed Q&A with "The Hollywood Reporter", where the pair discussed how their latest project has shaped their outlook on travel and life.
Bailey and Page star as love interests in the upcoming romcom "You, Me & Tuscany", a film that leans heavily into romance, self-discovery and impulsive decisions.
During the Q&A, Bailey explained how stepping into her character’s shoes shifted her mindset.
“Filming definitely changed the way that I think about travelling. I love that my character Anna was very impulsive and decided like that day, that second that she was going to go to Tuscany,” said Bailey.
“I think you need to live life like that and just go on a whim.”
Her co-star Page echoed the sentiment, encouraging people to lean into courage and self-growth.
“Take bigger risks and allow yourself to be the version of yourself you wish you were,” he added.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of Tuscany, "You, Me & Tuscany" follows Anna, who spontaneously jets off to Italy and ends up staying at a stranger’s villa - without permission.
When she is caught by the man’s mother, Anna quickly improvises, claiming to be his fiancée.
What begins as a harmless lie spirals into something far more complicated when she finds herself drawn to the stranger’s charming cousin.
The storyline mirrors Bailey’s real-life takeaway: sometimes the most unexpected decisions lead to the most meaningful experiences.
Beyond spontaneity, Bailey also shared her personal travel preferences, revealing a love for quieter, more reflective destinations.
She explained that she enjoys hiking and being close to water when she needs to reconnect with herself.
“I feel like you could find yourself in the water, and it cleanses you as well.”
Her approach highlights a growing travel trend centred on wellness, solitude and intentional experiences rather than packed itineraries.
Bailey also recently reflected on her global rise following her role as Ariel in "The Little Mermaid", during a conversation with Michelle Obama.
The actress admitted that the sudden surge in fame was both exciting and overwhelming.
“'The Little Mermaid'for me was like a whole different trajectory. I was introduced to a different side of the world that I never even knew would know my name.”
“With that, it started to feel like a lot. I was very grateful for it, but it was kind of a shock of how much people suddenly cared about my name, or how much they expressed that they don’t care or don’t think that I’m a good fit.”
“I didn’t think that people would care this much.”
From navigating global fame to embracing spontaneous adventures, Bailey’s message is clear: growth often lies outside of carefully laid plans.
Whether it’s booking a last-minute trip or simply allowing yourself to take risks, her philosophy encourages travellers to trust the moment - and themselves.
