The arduous journey of the 2025 matric cohort in the Western Cape officially drew to a close today, as the final 1,470 candidates sat their last papers in Agricultural Management Practices, Marine Sciences, or Music Comprehension. The completion of this massive academic undertaking represents a significant milestone for countless learners across the province.

Smooth sailing through a staggering task

This year’s examination session has been praised for its smoothness, a glowing testament to the superb organisational skills displayed by officials and school staff members. Conducting a staggering 112 different papers throughout the period was a monumental administrative task, one successfully managed thanks to the co-operation and support of the public.

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) expressed its sincere gratitude to the dedicated matric teachers for their relentless efforts in preparing students.

“Your hard work has laid a sturdy foundation for your learners' futures,” officials stated, underscoring the crucial role educators play in shaping the academic paths of their students during this formative period.

The marking marathon begins

The focus now shifts immediately from invigilation to the critical marking phase. Responsibility now lies with 4,190 markers tasked with grading over 954,000 exam scripts across 12 designated marking centres.

This considerable endeavour is crucial to ensuring that candidates receive accurate results reflective of their dedication and learning throughout the year.

The anticpted national matric results are scheduled to be announced on Monday, 12 January 2026.

Students will be able to access their individual results the following day, Tuesday, 13 January 2026, either directly at their schools or via the official WCED website.
