South Africa’s Special Investigating Unit (SIU) is gaining unexpected attention online, thanks to its creative and engaging Instagram content that blends humour with serious anti-corruption work.
From slick visuals reminiscent of 'Top Billing' to cleverly chosen background music, the SIU’s social media strategy is striking a chord with the public while highlighting its investigations.
In a recent post, the SIU announced that it had secured a preservation order to freeze 17 immovable properties valued at R76.5 million, along with seven luxury vehicles.
These assets are linked to businessman Siyabonga Moses Goodwill Nkosi, who has been associated with luxury lifestyle influencer Leleti Nkosi.
The assets are reportedly tied to corruption involving Eskom.
The SIU also revealed that several of the properties connected to the businessman have now been preserved as part of its ongoing investigation.
To accompany the announcement, the SIU shared a video featuring drone footage of two high-end properties:
The video stood out for its polished production, echoing the style of luxury property showcases typically seen on lifestyle television.
Captioning the post, the SIU wrote: “#SIUWorkingForYou | The SIU has preserved properties worth over R76 million that the SIU linked to Eskom corruption. How do some of the properties look?”
The post quickly gained traction, with many social media users praising the SIU’s unconventional yet effective communication style.
