Two senior police officials have been arrested by the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT). The head of the Gauteng Hawks, Ebrahim Kadwa, was taken into custody on Saturday, while Feroz Khan, a senior officer in Crime Intelligence, was apprehended following the raid of his Houghton apartment in Johannesburg on Sunday morning.

It is understood that Kadwa was arrested on Saturday, and Khan was nabbed shortly after his apartment in Houghton, Johannesburg, was raided on Sunday morning.

Authorities have not publicly confirmed the identities of the arrested officers, but police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe stated that the arrests are part of a broader investigation into illicit precious metals transactions, corruption, and related offences. Along with the officers, a civilian was also detained, indicating the far-reaching implications of the investigation.

“These arrests form part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to dismantle criminal networks involved in the illicit trade of precious minerals and corruption,” Mathe said.

According to Mathe, the suspects were taken into custody after being linked to allegations of unlawful precious metals transactions, corruption, and attempts to defeat the ends of justice.

The three suspects are expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Monday, May 11, where they will face multiple charges, including unlawful dealing in precious metals, corruption, defeating the ends of justice, and contraventions of legislation regulating the trade in precious minerals.
