Loftus Versfeld was transformed into a deafening cauldron of noise this past Sunday as Mamelodi Sundowns took a massive step toward continental glory.

In a fiercely contested CAF Champions League Final first leg against Moroccan heavyweights AS FAR, the tension was palpable until Aubrey Modiba’s spectacular dead-ball magic ignited a sold-out stadium.

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Keanu Cupido had been a major doubt for the final after picking up a potential season-ending shoulder injury against Kaizer Chiefs a fortnight ago.

But the star defender miraculously recovered to take his place at the heart of Sundowns' defence and delivered a disciplined performance to help keep a crucial clean sheet.

The Masandawana faithful had come in their thousands to transform Loftus into a sea of yellow in a bid to help their team achieve second CAF Champions League star.

The Sundowns' players were jubilant after Modiba' strike.

The party was now fully underway with Sundowns fans singing and dancing in the stands after the goal.

There was a 20-minute delay after halftime when the VAR technology was not working.

The action certainly heated up in the second half with both teams fighting for possession.

Sundowns had numerous opportunities to extend their lead in the second half, but Brayan Leon was the biggest culprit with the Colombian striker missing a couple of clear cut chances when played in on goal.

Unfortunately, the match ended with fan violence after AS Far supporters became embroiled in a clash with SAPS.
